My DJ Profile
A Brief History
The Early Years of Collecting
I have been a collector of dance grooves for as long as I can remember, from at least the age of about 13-14. I used to go to boot sales with the family and pick up random records trying them out and spinning them on the family record player, the type that you could stack them up, such joy.
Before then, my mother also used to take me to the infamous Woolworths to buy records as well do remember them having charts and all sorts of great things. Listening to the radio was also something that I used to do a lot.
At that time we had it tuned into Luxemburg and Caroline and I was always seeking the best sounds. Top Of The Pops was also a real education to me as well and was also a family event.
Clubbing and Record Shopping
I grew up in the East End of London, on a healthy diet of clubbing, frequenting Lacy Lady & Ilford Town Hall in Essex, The Royalty in Southgate, and in the West End, the Lyceum. I witnessed first-hand the birth of the Brit Funk movement as we know it from back in the late 70s.
I was also a resident of West London becoming a regular punter of the Americas Club based in Southall, The Clay Pigeon in Ruislip & Jackson’s in Staines as well as a number of All Dayers and All Weekenders, later forming The Northolt Funk Patrol.
An important job of a DJs' is to source material, I am a great vinyl buyer, and during the 80's my favourite record stores were, Rayner's Lane, Record Shack in Berwick Street, and the record and tape exchange in both Shephard's Bush and Notting Hill Gate.
The 90's I was a regular to the Black Music record fairs and my all-time favourite place, Sounds Familiar in Romford.
Birth Of The Disc Jockey
I started DJing publically back in the mid-80s whilst being a serving member of the armed forces, based in West London, playing 'in-house' functions on a regular basis.
The 90s was a period where I started working within the music industry on record sales and regularly DJ'd both in venues in and around Essex plus various parts of London. Amongst my many gigs, I played at "Jazzin' For Jamaica" at Union Chapel, and many other great gigs including being on the same lineup as the Scratch Perverts, & Bentley Rhythm Ace.
I recently landed the role of radio presenter to my repertoire back in 2019 with Essex Radio station, Stomp Radio.
